The number of participants of the “Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022” has reached the ceiling: more than 120 crews will start. (Article)
The “Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022” competition will be held in Lazdijai on May 13-14, which will be the first stage of the season for the Lithuanian Car Rally Sprint and Mini Rally Championships. After organizing the registration and announcing the preliminary start order of the participants, the organizers Marimotors Racing announce that this year the number of crews is a record and surpassed last year.
This year’s “Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022” competition received an even bigger stir than last year. If 116 duos joined the start in 2021, this year the organizers approved the applications of 124 crews. This is the maximum number that can be accepted by the organizers of the competition. 51 crews will appear in the Lithuanian Car Rally Sprint Championship and another 73 in the Mini Rally Championship.
“Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022” also attracted the participants of the Lithuanian Rally Championship. Racers such as Ramūnas Čapkauskas, Justas Tamašauskas, Eugenijus Sladkevičius, Aurimas Eidžiūnas, Egidijus Valeiša will start here. This is a great opportunity for all these pilots to train before the first stage of the Lithuanian Rally Championship, which will take place in Poland. The competition in one of the most picturesque regions of Lithuania also attracted the interest of its neighbors. Several crews from Poland will appear in Lazdijai. Mariusz Sobotka, one of the country’s representatives, will drive a Škoda Fabia R5.
The organizers of the Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022 claim that this year they will serve both new and unseen and already used but turned speed sections or their sections to the participants this year.
“This time the competition scheme itself is interesting. There will be three sections in the rally. Only Rally Sprint participants will start in the first section. We will immediately direct them to the longest stretches of about eight kilometers, which are driven twice. After the first section and the “regrouping”, the crews of the Mini Rally Championship will join the participants of the Rally Sprint, six more speed sections will start, running once, “said Ronaldas Rutkauskas, one of the organizers of the competition.
The organizers who have published the maps of the speed sections claim that the spectators will definitely have something to choose from, as it will be possible to access many speed sections on side roads. There will be no shortage of action in Lazdijai city park for those who decide not to drive to the speed sections. Not only will the official opening and closing of the event take place here, but also a service area for participants will be established, and a “regrouping” will take place, so there will be plenty of action in Lazdijai City Park at any time on Saturdays.
On Saturday, the Gravel Fest Rally – Lazdijai 2022 race will be crowned by a rally evening that will start at 7.30 pm. It will feature an award ceremony and a concert for the prize-winners and winners, featuring the Ukrainian band TaRuta and the well-known Du Donatai.
